Miałam niewiele czasu by wykonać tę pracę. Wróciłam z Polski 27 września, a termin oddania pracy konkursowej w TUS (moja alma mater) upływał 1 października (no i tutaj żadnych wymówek – termin to termin). Elementy te zostały celowo wyrwane z pierwotnego kontekstu: to ślady eksperymentów, pomysłów, systemów i obserwacji wizualnych.

I had very little time to make this work. I back from Poland on 27 September, and the deadline for submitting work to the TUS competition was 1 October (No excuses - a deadline is a deadline). The work wasn’t selected, so I’m showing it here instead. And, thankfully, I decided not to make a frame for it. The work brings together art, design, science and the act of discovery through a completely analogue process. I created the collage from fragments of my research and final projects made during my studies at TUS, from a time when students were still expected to make, research, experiment and think through their own hands. The fragments have been deliberately removed from original contexts: traces of experiments, ideas, systems and visual observations. I was also interested in writing as something between language, image and system, not simply communication, but material, pattern and evidence of thought. For me, chaos is where discovery begins: the brainstorm, the collision of unrelated fragments, the failed experiment and the unexpected connection. This piece is not a reconstruction of my student work, but a visual record of its residue, the productive chaos from which ideas emerge. And that’s the end of my little competition adventure.

Congratulations to everyone at Graphic Design TUS Athlone on 50 years of design education. Thank you to all the lecturers and staff - past and present - who have contributed to this remarkable 50-year journey and continue to give students the space, knowledge and encouragement to create. I dedicate this work to the people who taught me to look, question, experiment and make - and to everyone who has helped keep the creative spirit of Graphic Design in Athlone alive for the past 50 years.
Happy 50th Anniversary, Graphic Design TUS Athlone!
